E109: Exploring perspectives on young children's lives and learning
I started E109 in October 2016 and I completed it alongside another 60 credit module. The module is an OU level 1 module, which is equivalent to SCQF 7 and FHEQ 4 and it is 60 credits. I am writing this review after I have compelted and passed the module, so it will be shorter than future reviews.
As E109 was one of my first experiences with the Open University and higher education in general, I felt like I didn't have much to compare it too, however since completing and passing the module I think I have a good idea what the standard is and I can compare it to another module I passed at the same time.
The module comes with 3 books: Starting with the child, Responding to the Child and Making provision for early childhood. You are expected to complete 4 TMA's and 1 EMA. These are all in essay format and range from 1000 words to 2500.
I found E109 the least enjoyable of both modules I have studied, I initially felt motivated and interested in the content but as the year went on I was finding it a struggle to read the content. The third block and third book I did not enjoy, I felt it repeated quite a lot I had already read and the content felt dry and boring. This is also the content which the EMA (The exam essay) is based on, so that didn't help either. Despite this, I did pass the EMA and the module overall but my score was not my best. I found the marking to be stricter on this module and you really need to brush up on your essay writing skills as the tutors are less forgiving.
Overall, the staff were lovely but they did expect more than my other module. Would I recommend this to a friend? I'm not 100% sure, different people enjoy different things, if I could go back in time I would have probably picked something else.
