E102: An introduction to childhood studies and child psychology

E102 was the first module I signed up for and started with The Open University. I am writing this after I have completed and passed the module so it will be brief compared to current modules.

I applied in July 2015 and started in October of that year. Unfortunately, I was very unprepared and had a bit of a wobble, I withdrew from the module the day before the module start date. A decision I spent the next 12 months regretting. 

I signed up the following year and began the coarse in October 2016, I also decided that I would make up for lost time and complete another module along side this one.

The module is a OU level 1 module which is equivalent to SCQF level 7 and FHEQ 4. It comes with one module book which has 14 chapters and you are expected to complete 4 TMA's during the coarse, one of which is marked as an exam. The TMA's are in essay form and they range from 1000 words to 2500 words. You also need to complete and submit learning journals along with your TMA's. These are normally a set of questions relating to material in the book or any online activities you have completed during that block. 

As this was my first module with The Open University I wasn't sure what to expect, I also didn't have anything to compare it too, however, considering I had been out of school for 12 years, I managed to pass the module. If I compare it to another module which I completed along side E102, I would say that E102 was the more forgiving. By that I mean I found the essays to be more scaffolded and structured and therefor "easier" to pass. 

I found the module enjoyable, however by Block 3 I was beginning to get a little bored of the material, this showed in my TMA results and I performed poorly on the material I found boring. 

Overall, I am glad I completed this module and would recommend it, the staff where also fantastic and I have no communication issues with my tutor.
